Overview
Dakota County, MN has not adopted the MN State Building Codes.
All cities and townships in Dakota County have land use and zoning authority. Building permits are issued by the city or township. Additional County permits are required in townships within designated shoreland and floodplain.
Applicable only to the 13 unincorporated townships within Dakota County, § 1.00 (Applicability) of the Dakota County Ordinance #50 (Shoreland and Floodplain Management); requires a shoreland or floodplain permit, or both be filed with the county for certain types of activities under the ordinance.
§ 6.01 A (Shoreland Permit Required)
A person must obtain a shoreland permit from the zoning administrator prior to conducting the following activities: the construction or demolition of structures or building additions regardless of cost and size (and including such related activities as the construction of fences higher than five feet, ground-mounted solar panels decks, stairs, and signs).
§ 6.01 B (Floodplain Permit Required)
A person must obtain a floodplain permit from the zoning administrator prior to conducting the following activities. The erection, addition, modification, rehabilitation (including normal maintenance and repair) or alteration of any building, structure or portion thereof.
